Reclaiming the Lord’s Day
As we give focus to “Reclaiming Sundays,” we start with the importance of participating in Sunday Mass. Jesus Christ died so that we may have eternal life; God asks us to worship Him every Sunday (and Holy Day of Obligation) so that we can become the saints that He wants us to be. As Dr. Naughton of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas likes to state, “If we don’t get Sundays right, we won’t get Mondays right.”
May Initiative – Community and Prayer
In May’s Reclaiming Sundays videos, Karla Gergen and Maricruz Hernández invite us to be present to others through real relationships in order to receive the joy and the rest God has given us in the Sabbath. Find the videos in English and Spanish and guides (English (coming soon), Spanish) on the Reclaiming Sundays webpage.
You may know that Fr. Matt’s background is in urban transportation, which also overlaps with city design. Pope Francis links city design with evangelization in his 2013 apostolic exhortation “The Joy of the Gospel” (Evangelii Gaudium): “Houses and neighborhoods are more often built to isolate and protect than to connect and integrate. The proclamation of the Gospel will be a basis for restoring the dignity of human life.” One question that follows from this–How can we be a witness of God’s love to our neighbors given our limitations in our community?
Activities for May:
God calls us to love everyone He has put into our lives, including our neighbors. To that end, do a prayer walk with your household for your community–walk together around your neighborhood, praying for those in each house you pass. Pray also for those who serve your neighborhood, including police, firefighters, local government, school officials, etc

Small Groups are here at
St Gregory the Great
Archbishop Hebda’s pastoral letter, You Will Be My Witnesses, sets forth a beautiful path for our Archdiocese: a way for every parish to be, as Pope Francis says, a “community of communities.” St. Gregory the Great parish is taking the next step on this path in Lent by launching small groups designed to: foster personal relationships, build community, and provide formation so we all may grow as joyful missionary disciples of Christ. Each Small Group will focus on the topic of Prayer throughout Lent and move towards other topics after Lent such as Eucharist, Gospels, and Saints
Be a part of this mission: join a Small Group! It’s not too late (nor will it ever be – these groups are ongoing) to sign up for one, so please contact the parish office if you would like to do so. 651-674-4056 or info@stgregorynb.org.
Fr. Matt’s Christian Resource Recommendations
We live in an age like none other, especially with regards to communications. For the faith, we have more resources than ever before. I would like to share my favorite ones with you in the hope that you would also benefit from them. As I discover other resources, I will share them on the parish website.
The Pope’s Prayer Intentions
Every year, the Holy Father entrusts twelve prayer intentions to the Church—one for each month—through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. This organization works to encourage Christians to respond to the Pope’s appeal and to deepen their daily prayer.
The Pope’s intentions reflect the deepest needs of our world and the mission of the Church. They are born from a global process of listening and discernment, and chosen by the Pope after his own time of prayer.
Here we will highlight the Pope’s monthly intentions for 2026. We invite you to pray with us and to help spread the mission. Share the intentions with your parish, family, and friends. May God hear our Holy Father’s intentions. This we pray, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
MAY 2026 – That everyone might have food.
Let us pray that everyone, from large producers to small consumers, be committed to avoid wasting food, and to ensure that everyone has access to quality food.
