Reclaiming the Lord’s Day

As we give focus to “Reclaiming Sundays,” we start with the importance of participating in Sunday Mass. Jesus Christ died so that we may have eternal life; God asks us to worship Him every Sunday (and Holy Day of Obligation) so that we can become the saints that He wants us to be. As Dr. Naughton of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas likes to state, “If we don’t get Sundays right, we won’t get Mondays right.”

March Initiative – “Elevated Conversations and Prayer.”
The power of conversation in a family cannot be overstated. The act of listening with the ear of the heart and responding out of love to what was heard is the bedrock of trust in the family. Taking time to engage in this kind of conversation can often get pushed aside for the urgent needs that take priority in working to manage frantic family life.

The first activity for this month is something that a married couples group that I am chaplain for (Teams of Our Lady) does each month–sharing of your highs and lows in the past week (or month, as the case may be). Such an open sharing allows friends and even family members to learn more about their loved one’s world; this is why time is given for a similar type of sharing in parish small groups. Allow them to share freely without interrupting. You can follow up with questions or comments when they are done.

One way to have elevated conversation with family members is to provide an opportunity for one-on-one time. This is good for every relationship (especially a marriage), but if you have a child (or you have a parent still living), particularly focus on that relationship. If he or she is nearby, make a special plan to meet up for coffee (or dinner). If he or she lives far away, schedule a phone call when you both can listen attentively.

Small Groups are here at

St Gregory the Great

Archbishop Hebda’s pastoral letter, You Will Be My Witnesses, sets forth a beautiful path for our Archdiocese: a way for every parish to be, as Pope Francis says, a “community of communities.” St. Gregory the Great parish is taking the next step on this path in Lent by launching small groups designed to: foster personal relationships, build community, and provide formation so we all may grow as joyful missionary disciples of Christ. Each Small Group will focus on the topic of Prayer throughout Lent and move towards other topics after Lent such as Eucharist, Gospels, and Saints

Be a part of this mission: join a Small Group! It’s not too late (nor will it ever be – these groups are ongoing) to sign up for one, so please contact the parish office if you would like to do so. 651-674-4056 or info@stgregorynb.org.

Fr. Matt’s Christian Resource Recommendations

We live in an age like none other, especially with regards to communications. For the faith, we have more resources than ever before. I would like to share my favorite ones with you in the hope that you would also benefit from them. As I discover other resources, I will share them on the parish website.

The Pope’s Prayer Intentions

Every year, the Holy Father entrusts twelve prayer intentions to the Church—one for each month—through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. This organization works to encourage Christians to respond to the Pope’s appeal and to deepen their daily prayer.

The Pope’s intentions reflect the deepest needs of our world and the mission of the Church. They are born from a global process of listening and discernment, and chosen by the Pope after his own time of prayer.

Here we will highlight the Pope’s monthly intentions for 2026. We invite you to pray with us and to help spread the mission. Share the intentions with your parish, family, and friends. May God hear our Holy Father’s intentions. This we pray, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

February – For children with incurable diseases
Let us pray that children suffering from incurable diseases and their families receive the necessary medical care and support, never losing strength and hope.
March – For disarmament and peace
Let us pray that nations move toward effective disarmament, particularly nuclear disarmament, and that world leaders choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy instead of violence.
