Reclaiming Sundays:
During October, the theme for the “Reclaiming Sundays” initiative is “Rest, Recreation, and Prayer.” As Dr. Naughton of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas likes to state, “If we don’t get Sundays right, we won’t get Mondays right.” The primary purposes of Sunday are to pray/worship and to rest. Other activities (such as unnecessary shopping and servile labor) can be problematic if those primary purposes are curtailed.
Action for this month: As a family, refrain from house projects and tasks centered around productivity. If you need something like orange juice, it is not sinful to go to the store; however, avoid making Sundays a shopping day. If you like to garden, then go ahead and garden on Sundays; if you don’t like it, take a day-off. Similar things could be said for other household tasks.
Formed.org Catholic Resource – Video of the Week:
October 22 was the feast of former Pope, St. John Paul II.   This week we share two resources to tell the story of this modern day saint:
(For the grown-ups) Pope John Paul II – Starring Jon Voight and Cary Elwes, this epic film follows Karol Wojtyla’s journey from his youth in Poland through his late days on the Chair of St. Peter.  https://app.formed.org/app/videos/585522/
(For the kids) Saint John Paul II | Lukas Storyteller – Lukas, tired of seeing the same bored look on his friends’ faces, decides to tell them a captivating story. Not just any story, but a tale of a young Karol Wojtyła, who would one day become Pope John Paul II! The kids wouldn’t believe the adventures young Karol had, and how they would inspire them to create their own unforgettable day. https://app.formed.org/app/videos/870752/
